Ultrasound Procedure for Children

  1. Preparation Before the Exam Usually, no special preparation is needed. In some cases, the doctor may ask the child to refrain from eating or drinking for a short period, depending on the organ being examined.
  2. Child-Friendly Environment Examination rooms are often designed with bright colors and toys to reduce anxiety.
  3. Applying Gel to the Skin The doctor will apply warm gel to the area being examined to help transmit sound waves and obtain clear images.
  4. Using the Transducer The transducer is moved over the skin to capture images of internal organs. The child may feel a slight coolness but no pain.
  5. Duration of the Exam The procedure takes about 15-30 minutes, depending on the area examined.

Post-Examination Care

  • Cleaning the Skin The gel will be wiped off, but parents can clean the area further at home if needed.
  • Monitoring the Child Although ultrasound is safe, watch for any unusual symptoms and consult a doctor if necessary.
  • Following Up on Results The doctor will provide results and any additional recommendations. Further tests may be required if needed.
